Futurist Amy Webb Declares “Virtual Reality for News” a Top Tech Trend

Every year, digital media consultant and futurist Amy Webb of Webb Media Group gives a highly-attended talk at the Online News Association annual conference about the top 10 trends journalists and media managers should pay attention to. This year, Virtual Reality News was number 5 on her list.

Webb went on to call out Dan Pacheco as a leader in the field.

After learning that Gannett Digital’s Harvest of Change was being demoed at the conference, she encouraged everyone to be sure to try it out before leaving the conference.

Virtual Reality Storytelling Workshop

At the 2014 Online News Association conference, FutureForecast’s Chief Innovator Dan Pacheco and SU student Irfan Uraizee led an interactive workshop about how to get started with creating virtual reality environments in Unity3D. The workshop included a downloadable Unity scene with free assets available to anyone through the Unity store. Professor Pacheco and Student Play Key Roles in Groundbreaking Journalism Movement

The S.I. Newhouse School has a great article from SU News’ Keith Kobland about Dan Pacheco’s role in the groundbreaking Harvest of Change virtual reality story produced by Gannett Digital and  the Des Moines Register. This project emerged from a 3-month consulting arrangement between FutureForecast Consulting LLC and Gannett Digital. Syracuse University student Irfan Uraizee was also hired as an intern based on the recommendation of Professor Dan Pacheco. Read the whole story here.
